Medical insurance options for non-surgical program
While there are many plans and types of coverage, the following insurance companies generally offer some coverage for non-surgical weight loss:

  • Aetna
  • Cigna
  • First Health
  • Humana
  • PHCS
  • Texas True Choice
  • Tricare
  • United HealthCare

Most medical testing such as labs and EKG can be billed to insurance, except for the DXA body composition test and some supplements that help with weight loss. New patient and follow up visits are also billed to insurance; the patient pays only their co-payment provided your insurance covers weight loss.

Surgical Weight Loss Program Costs

Surgical Cash Pay Costs

We'll have insurance cover your surgery whenever possible, and insurance coverage rates are up from about 50% of all patients to 80% in 2011.

If insurance won't cover surgery, paying “out of pocket” or “cash pay” is more practical than it used to be.  In 2002 the cost for bariatric surgery ranged from $20-30,000.  Thanks to lower complication rates and better pain control (leading to shorter hospital stay), the cost is now less than $15,000.  Cash rates are discounted in comparison to insurance, through a system called “Prompt Pay.”  Here's how Prompt Pay works:

  • Fixed discount rates called “prompt pay” are available to anyone who submits the entire fee prior to surgery.
  • Prompt Pay Surgeon's Fee: $4,500 for your primary surgeon and for the surgical assistant (same fee for any surgical option).  This price includes 90 days of follow up visits.
  • Hospital fees range from $8,500 to $15,500.
  • Anesthesiologist fees are approximately $700.
  • Lab or x-ray fees are usually covered under insurance even if the surgical procedure is not (we are diagnosing or treating standard medical conditions).

We are in-network providers for all major insurance companies, including:
